LUV Sympli Whitney

Whitney Marshall a.k.a. Sympli Whitney was born in Springfield, MA in 1976 and raised in Framingham, MA by her two loving parents Benjamin and Lucy Marshall; both devout Christians and ordained Baptist ministers, Whitney's vocal journey started early as a young gospel alto in various church choirs from middle school through college.

During her college years she became more confident in her performance abilities after landing lead female vocals for an up and coming funk band out of Indiana known as The Big Bang Theory. It was in this period of time Whitney began to really show her first true signs of greatness, performing alongside George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelics at Ball State University was the highlight of this time for Sympli Whitney.

After college Whitney joined the work force which led her to an interest in criminal justice. This eagerness to learn found Whitney enlisting in the US Army in 2002 and living abroad for several years before being honorably discharged after suffering an injury while in S. Korea in 2006. Upon return to her family's home in Framingham, Whitney, again driven by her love for helping people, followed a career path in human services, adolescent healthcare, mental health and healthcare administration in which she holds an MBA. All while actively singing lead/co-lead female vocals in a variety of local bands around the Boston area such as Mystique, Nemisis, E-Water Band and Athene Wilson and Friends; all this in addition to forming her own band, perfectly named Sympli Whitney.

In 2014, Sympli Whitney appeared on BET's APOLLO LIVE season 2 airing on September 26th, where she received accolades from the legendary Gladys Knight, Boston's own Michael Bivins and the incomparable Doug E. Fresh! The Judges, searched for words to explain why they enjoyed her performance and why they were each impressed. Whitney has that effect on people. It’s hard to say who she reminds you of because she has a sound and vocal style of her own, yet she could remind you of such legends as Evelyn King, Patrice Rushen or maybe Cherelle. Whitney was one of the featured artists on the 2014 independent release titled “Indie Soul United 2.” She was featured on “7 Days A Week,” “I’d Rather Say Good Morning” and a remake of the Stevie Wonder classic “Black Man.” “ISU 2” reached the #2 spot on the U.K. Soul Chart. 

Fast forwarding to the present, Sympli Whitney continues to win fans all over around the world with her soulful voice. Landing on several UK charts, such as the UK Top 30 Soul Chart, early January 2016's release of her freshman album 'Ryze of the Phoenix', would spark a fire that would not dim for almost 8 months! With powerful single remixes like 'The Best' by Colin Watson released on UK Soul designer label DSG, to the bouncy French vinyl release of the double a side 'Get Enuff & Fresh Luv which were captivating nostalgic beats pounding you out of your seat and into a dancing frenzy like you were in the 80's, but with enuff feel for today. It's is no wonder Sympli didn't slow on the UK Soul charts for some time and no wonder why Whitney is featured in all the best of chart for 2016, with her album, 'Ryze of the Phoenix' and singles, 'The Best' & 'Get Enuff' / 'Fresh Love'. 

Sympli Whitney has stars in her eyes and with determination will make this her best year yet, with the release of the Colin Watson remix ep of, L.U.V, Get Enuff, and the mid tempo Echoes which has a reggae surprise breakdown init to expanded her yet to another audience of open minded, 80's groovin', 2017 R&B music lovers of the world. Clif Payne Freda Payne number One hit

Producer Preston Glass unites the Paynes together for a timeless ballad, which has now been remixed by Nigel Lowis as a ballad called downtempo mix (DOWNtown mix) or Uptempo in a UPtown mix, which has just released on DSG. You can feel the Soulfulness in the vocals which cut through Lowis's phillyesque remix production. People have already been comparing the cut to Patti & Michael's' On My Own',  Peaches & Herb' Reunited'.  If there such a thing these days as The Last Dance, we would hear songs like this more often.

The song has just reached #1 on the Sweet Rhythms chart & is the highest new entry in the UK soul chart. The song was written by Larry Batiste, Preston Glass & Clif Payne.

Harlem-born singer Clif Payne was first Discovered by Bobby McFerrin, is a 3-time Star Search winner who has opened for Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Dionne Warwick and Lakeside. Clif hails from a family of musicians and singers. His father was a reedsman who gigged with Lionel Hampton. His mother was a talented vocalist who once backed Nat "King" Cole in a vocal ensemble. Several years of living in LA enabled Clif to sing with incredible musicians and share the stage with jazz diva Dianne Reeves, Lionel Richie and The Commodores, Tony Toni Tone, and Sheila E. Clif has sung with American Idol judge & vocal coach Peggy Blu, Four Play drummer Harvey Mason, Grammy award-winning producer Narada Michael Walden (Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin), Lenny Williams, jazz fusionists Hiroshima, former Chicago vocalist Bill Champlin and legendary R&B band, Tower of Power. Actress Michelle Pfeiffer requested Clif to sing "When A Man Loves A Woman" at her wedding reception.

As a voice teacher, has studied with legendary LA vocal coach Seth Riggs (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder) associates, Chip Hand and Roger Burnley. Freda Payne is a worldwide household name who first record release was in 1962, Payne was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up listening to different jazz singers, such as Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Though best known for her 1970 R&B/Soul crossover smash hit “Band of Gold,” Freda Payne has always first and foremost been a jazz singer, dating back to The Jimmy Wilkins Big Band at age 14. Payne performed at the Apollo Theater in Harlem alongside Billy Eckstine backed by Quincy Jones and His Orchestra, comedian Redd Foxx and the dance team Coles & Atkins. She also graced the stage with Duke Ellington for two nights in Pittsburgh, after which he composed “Blue Piano” just for her.. In 1969, her old friends back home in Detroit, Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Edward Holland, Jr., persuaded her to sign with their newly formed record label Invictus. During that same year, her first Invictus single, "Unhooked Generation and became her first American R&B hit. The hits followed, UK #1, "Band of Gold", US #3 "Deeper & Deeper", "Bring the Boys Home",
In 1973, she left Invictus recorded a duet "I Wanna See You Soon" with Capitol stablemates Tavares, which was a radio airplay hit in the UK in 1977. in 1982, she recorded a single entitled "In Motion" for the Sutra label in New York that was arranged by Leon Sylvers, produced by Edmund Sylvers. Freda Payne has recently toured the UK as part of the late David Guest Soul legends live shows.

Hannah White's latest single That's Love gets a surprise remix by one of her longtime Pals Joey Nelson. Going back, Hannah White met Joey Nelson at a Roulette table in a Las Vegas casino, as he helped Hannah place few chips on black number 4.

 Joey Nelson at the time was getting his orchestra to play a residency at one of the Hotels on the strip, then he heard a whisper that Hannah White was a singer. After Hannah sent Joey the Tapes of her vocals, of That's Love. "The rest is History".

He explained that the Joey Nelson orchestra would love Hannah White to sing with them and this is the proof that great things are afoot …

Joey Nelson is currently writing final chapters to his movie called, Dreamsville in which Hannah White has agreed to sing on the soundtrack album, but for now here is the Joey Nelson remix. One things for sure,

Nigel Lowis has sold a staggering 14 million plus global records and Cd's.

Lowis's first top ten hit production was a Sister Sledge cover of '' Thinking of you '' by UK artist "Maureen Walsh" in 1990 on Polydor.

Lowis's others hits include Dina Carroll: So Close & Only Human albums, which were also, produced and Co-Written by him with both albums reaching #2 in the UK album charts! Then came UK Girl band
Eternal  which were also produced by Lowis with their first hit, a cover of Glen Jones Stay, then later a UK #1 hit with the Girls in a  duet with Bebe Winans, '' Wanna to be the only one'', for sure they were the UK's answer to En Vogue.

Among the names Lowis has work with include, Burt Bacharach, Gary Van den Bussche, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bebe Winins, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Carole King, Gene Page, Tom Moulton to name but a few..

Santa & The Sweet Rhythms Band - Christmas Cheer - Out Now on DSG Music

At the Solar Radio party Gary Spence said to me... wouldn't it be good if I could make a record, maybe like Steve Walsh did back in the day! You Wot, You What, You What!!! 

The first thing we had to do was get the concept of the song together, with the idea that Santa forgot to arrange his own party (yes it is the REAL Santa), Nigel Lowis & myself over the coarse of three weeks has been gathering sound bites, voice drops from all the DJ's that wanted to become involved for this charity single. Now all we needed was a catchy song, something bouncy and some singers ....

 Nigel Lowis started to hum the song, putting some lyrics to paper, Leanne McCrei came and laided down some vocals, followed by Minster, Gospel singer, Roger Samuels who has his debut single released early next year.

 The pantomime mix features Gary Spence answering Santa, as a guide for you to maybe to the same on the DJ Tools Mix, which has gaps for you to vocally fill in! Also included is the 7 inch mix of the song which only features the vocals without all of the fun of The Panto Mix... Thanks to everybody involved in the making of this Christmas Song, which Gave producer, Nigel Lowis many sleepless nights piecing the parts together, Now back to the Christmas Jigsaw ...

Legendary singer Lenny Williams delvers us his new single, ''Hooked On You'' the new Nigel Lowis mix released on DSG Music. The song is lifted from his forthcoming album, Blues, Grooves & other moves. The ultimate soul crooner and Oakland native, Lenny Williams, possesses one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music. With his rich, passionate vocal style, he is rightfully regarded as one of R&B’s most influential Soul men.

Williams began his musical career making records that have become R&B and Pop classics (e.g. “Cause I Love You” (recorded on his solo album) and “So Very Hard To Go”, which he recorded as the lead singer of Tower Of Power. Lenny Williams’ style has transcended into the new millennium, influencing many of today’s most popular R&B and Hip Hop artists.

In 1972 Williams joined, Tower of Power. A string of US hits ensued, including “So Very Hard To Go” and “Don’t Change Horses (In the Middle of the Stream)” [written by Lenny Williams and Johnny “Guitar” Watson]. During his two years with the group, Lenny participated in three milestone albums with them – [the gold LP] Tower Of Power, Back To Oakland, and Urban Renewal, while touring nonstop throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

At the end of 1975, Lenny returned to his solo projects. Initially signing with Motown in 1972, he later moved to ABC Records in 1977 (which was then purchased by MCA Records in 1979). Over the next four years, Lenny scored ten US charted hits, including “Shoo Doo Fu Fu Ooh”, “Choosing You”, “You Got Me Running”, “Love Hurt Me Love Healed Me” and “Midnight Girl”. Lenny recorded four more albums from 1977 – 1980, Choosing You (his first gold LP), Spark of Love, Love Current and Let’s Do It Today. These albums established a solid and loyal following for Lenny. The impact of his music can still be felt today, particularly the mega hit “Cause I Love You” [Spark of Love]. This song crosses generational boundaries and has frequently been used on old school and slow jam compilations throughout the years.

In 1986, Lenny was invited to sing vocals on “Don’t Make Me Wait For Love”, a song from superstar sax man Kenny G's multi-platinum selling album Duo Tones. When released as a single in 1987, the song became US Top 20 Pop and R&B hit. Who could forget his 1990. Gotta Lotta Luv, with its Eric Kupper mixes has remained a Soulful House classic ever since.

Over the past few years, Lenny has continued his solo career, touring the U.S., Europe and South Africa. In 2004 and 2005, Lenny and Kanye West were honored recipients of the BMI Songwriter’s Award for the song “Over Night Celebrity”, recorded by rapper Twista. He has recently shared stages with Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, K-Jon, Anthony Hamilton, The Whispers, Rick James, Boney James, Bobby Womack, The Ohio Players, Al Green, Usher, Betty Wright, SOS Band and Frankie Beverly & Maze. Lenny has also expanded his multi-dimensional career to include acting, starring in several popular stage plays. #DSG Music have two hits in the UK Soul Top 10!

#DSG Music is what would have sounded good yesterday, or maybe even sounding better today. They say a great song lives forever, or as Lou Rawl's once sang, ''This Song Will Last Forever.'' Well within our Soul Music genre with so many of our loved stars passing, indeed their music will always be around forever. This time last year we started the DSG Label with our first discovery a 7 year old demo sitting on Soundcloud. We had our first #1 UK Soul hit with SouLutions, Listen and Philly Line in the summer of last year. Drizabone, Mike Maurro, 12 Shades, Blazing Encore and Colin Watson turned the front room recorded demos into something spectacular, the band have since chosen to gone their own way, which by doing so, gave time to DSG to find some other undiscovered gems. 

DSG Music next release was by NEO that was first released in 2008. DRIZABONE did a mighty fine remix of the track, which was included on the, Ralph Tee complied ''Luxury Soul'' compilation album that is considered by many as one of the finest release of the year. Many thought the track had a Barry White feel about it anyway, so it was only natural progression that there should be a remix that pays homage to the great Mr Barry White in the form of the CW's Unlimited Gold remix.

The remix peaked at #2 on the Amazon UK Sales chart and has been in the top 5 of many charts. The track has remained in Solar Radio's '' Sweet Rhythm'' chart since November of last year! 
(Maybe a record?.).

 The song has just been released on 7 inch single through Expansions record with Downloads on #DSG Music and the good news it has climbed this week to #6 on the UK Soul Chart as seen in Blues & Soul magazine and heard on Starpoint Radio who compile the chart.

 Our 4th release on DSG Music was, Samuel D Sanders, Make You Mine, the song is currently not only in the Amazon UK Sales chart, but this weeks is sitting pretty at #2 on the UK Soul chart.

 There are the CWoriginal mix, Nigel Lowis inspired TSOP mix which really lets the Philly Soul 70's feel open up on the longer extended mix, look out for this on 7 inch any day.

 Released last week is the new CW Steppers mix which brings back memories of, Special Delivery's / Phil Fearon's - This Kinda Love or even Cheryl Barne's ''Save And Spend'' but all in all three mixes to suit every Soulful taste!

On April the 13th DSG release their 5th release with Ola Onabule ''Soul Town'' the song is about why has our music, that we love been removed from the Awards in the genre sections? after all, Gospel, Rap, Country all have a category, so why not Soul Music ? 

The song was first released in 2004, but has been given a make over by DSG Music with new remix productions by, CW, Mike Maurro & Nigel Lowis. The remixes has been tipped as, ''The Song Of The Year'' by many, with some stating the best remix of a song ever!. Currently #2 in Solar Radio's Sweet Rhythm chart  as seen in Echoes Magazine.. The song has also gone for a record with, superstar Gary Spence making it his record of the week from it's promo date to it's release!
